As a student, the University supplies Office 365 at no cost to UMD students. Go to the ITSS website and look for the students sections software.
How do I receive credit for taking the class? Did I get credit?

If you’ve done as was requested, you should see your email with a check next to the class you have taken.

Do I really need to take this?
Well, you can take this class for Passport credit. You get 1 credit per class. If you are majoring in Business Analytics or Consumer Insight Analytics – this class is a requirement.
You can take the Excel Core/Expert Certification, but it does not count towards the majors.

Hey, I can’t find the course anymore!
One of two things happened:
- You clicked on the wrong class (e.g. Expert instead of Core)
- You came in after the one week availability.
My guess – check to make sure you clicked the right button for the class!

The Certification Exam
This is a totally separate exam from anything done on this website. So those “quizzes” at the end of the videos are only to make sure you watched the video for Passport credit – not the exam.
This is a special exam by Microsoft that LSBE can now proctor. If you wanted to take it before – you had to go down to St. Cloud. Since COVID-19, you can take it at your place with your computer – no travel required!
Sign up to take the exam with LSBE Advising and Academic Services. The school will schedule a time when enough students (3-5) signup to take the test.
NEW: (Per Tracey Bolen): “Once the workshop series is completed, we send a message that explains the certification testing process. So just tell them to be on alert for a future email.”
The exam is scheduled through LSBE and costs $100. Students should purchase the one with the retake for $120.00 (retake must occur within 30 days of the first exam failure) or they have to keep paying the $100.00. You can sign up with the school and they will notify you when the test is.

Otherwise, it costs a lot more money.
Practice Exams
Take it through GMetrix. You can purchase a pass ($40) good for one year. It pins the login through email, so don’t use 1 email with a simple password and pass it around to your friends to split the cost….
What is the format?
A program is loaded on to your computer and your version of Excel actually grabs files from wherever and asks you to do specific tasks on it. As someone in business for the last 20 years doing it – it is a pretty good approximation of real-life.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you take a few practice test from GMETRICS. They are very close to actual test questions.
Is there a time limit?
The exam is scheduled for 1.5 hours but that takes into account the set up time and if there are any issues. The exam itself is only given for 50 minutes and then the test shuts off. The timer begins with the first question.
